Mahindra & Mahindra to reveal official name, details and specification of the upcoming Mahindra U301 or the Mahindra mini Bolero on July 30, 2015
New Mahindra Bolero details to be announced on July 3

Indian automobile major, Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing to introduce a slew of new UV models in India in the coming months. Earlier this year, the car manufacturer launched the updated Mahindra XUV500 and now it will reveal more details about the compact version of the new Mahindra Bolero – code named U301. Post which the company will be introducing an updated version of the Mahindra Quanto and a couple of new compact SUVs with monocoque underpinning, and code named the S101 and S102.

Like the new Scorpio, Mahindra U301 mini-Bolero will be based on the newly developed ladder-on-frame chassis, albeit in a shorter iteration. Though more specific details will emerge on July 30, 2015 when Mahindra will announce the official name and more details on the U301, we expect it to come with a 1.5-litre diesel motor mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, just like on the Mahindra Quanto. Later, Mahindra is likely to introduce an AMT (Automatic Manual Transmission) and AWD (All Wheel Drive) variants. Here, the company will focus on the new compact Bolero’s mileage and position it as the most fuel efficient vehicle in its class.

We have spotted the U301 test mules a couple of times, and it seems to carry the Mahindra’s family boxy and rugged design and the new found grille which is seen on the new Scorpio and updated XUV500. The same grille will also be seen on the updated Quanto.

The new grille seen on Next Generation Mahindra XUV500 will also be sported by the new mini Bolero

In spite of its compact proportions it will be interesting to see if, apart from the usual 5-seater option, Mahindra also introduces a 7-seat version with foldable benches in the boot. This will be an attractive option for UV buyers in the rural areas, which is the primary target market for the U301.

The cabin will be more modern than the current one seen in the existing Mahindra Bolero, with better plastic parts and use of chrome and brush metal finish. We can also expect a stylish new steering wheel and even a large colour display and on higher variants, perhaps a touchscreen infotainment system.

Price and more details on the new Mahindra mini-Bolero will be announced during its launch later this year. More details on July 30, 2015.
