Earlier this year TVS Motor Company announced that the TVS Jupiter had crossed the 5 lakh unit sales mark since its launch in September 2013. In fact, the popular 110cc scooter is one of the few models which managed to give some competition to the segment leader Honda Activa. To keep building the pressure, TVS Motor is now planning to introduce a new top-end variant of the scooter, and has registered the TVS Jupiter ZX moniker.
One of the big changes on the new TVS Jupiter ZX variant will be a 220mm solid disc brake in front, instead of the 130mm drum brake other variants come equipped with. We also expect the new ZX version to be offered in a couple of new body colours and attractive body decals.
The only other TVS scooter to come with a disc brake option is the TVS Wego and since most of its cycle parts are similar to the Jupiter, fixing a disc on the later is relatively easy.
The TVS Jupiter ZX will continue to be powered by the 109.7cc single cylinder, air-cool motor producing 7.61PS of peak power and maximum torque of 8Nm, and has a claimed mileage of 62kmpl. The current drum-brake-only version is priced at Rs 49,948 (ex-showroom Mumbai), and the new disc brake equipped TVS Jupiter ZX is expected to command a premium of about Rs 2,500-3,000 over the existing model.
