The Best Of 2018 Pebble Beach

On Friday, BMW got their social media followers busy by posting an image of an upcoming targa top roadster. Other than certain design cues, it's hard to decipher the image as the silhouette sinks in the black background. But, that doesn't stop us from speculating. Our spider sense (pun intended) tells us that this could very well be the successor to the Z4 roadster, which was laid to rest last year. The caption only reveals when and where the roadster will be revealed, which is August 17 at Pebble Beach.
But, here's the kicker. BMW has a history of showcasing concepts at the Pebble Beach that remain just that. As much as we'd love to see an awesome concept (8 Series, anyone?), we'd love for it to make it to production relatively unchanged. There are rumours about it being the successor to the Z4 (possibly called the Z5), and there's word about it being a brand new roadster from BMW's electrified 'i' family as well. That said, we have our bets placed on the former.
The long bonnet, pointy nose and the sleek silhouette all point towards it being a compact roadster. Moreover, the image looks quite close to the prototype we've been seeing doing the rounds of the Nurburgring along with its coupe cousin which is touted to be the next-gen Toyota Supra. The concept will give us a first-hand feeler of what to expect from future BMWs in terms of design and tech. We're just praying a lot of that makes it to production.
