The tenth-generation Honda Civic has been imported here for homologation or testing purposes.

Update: The Honda Civic has been launched, priced from Rs 17.70 lakh to Rs 22.30 lakh, ex-showroom pan-India.

The Honda Civic can be credited with redefining the entry-level luxury sedan segment in a lot of ways. Launched in 2006, the Civic was doing well for the Japanese carmaker in India until petrol prices shot northwards. The Honda Accord and the CR-V also saw rapidly declining sales mainly because they were only offered with petrol engines.

Honda has now imported the new tenth generation Honda Civic in India for homologation or testing purposes. The same was launched in Thailand this year in March and it comes with a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit which churns out 177PS of power and also a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated unit which produces 141PS of power. Both the engines come mated to a manual as well as a CVT gearbox.

The Honda Civic also comes with a 1.6-litre diesel engine in a few international markets and we expect the Civic to be launched with the same diesel engine here in India.
The spied car is most likely the top of the line variant as it comes with a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, alloy wheels, LED day time running lamps and an electronic handbrake.

The previous generation Honda Civic was discontinued in India in 2012. We can expect the new model to be launched here by the end of 2017 and it will take on the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia and the Volkswagen Jetta in our market.
