Hyundai will be launching the next-gen Elantra in September this year. The all-new car will get a 2.0-litre (151PS) petrol motor for the first time. The current Elantra is available with a 1.8-litre VTVT petrol motor. Despite the new engine’s increased displacement, it will produce better mileage figures than the current motor, courtesy the employment of Atkinson cycle.

Other than the new petrol motor, the upcoming Elantra will also get a revised version of the current 1.6-litre CRDi (128PS) diesel with 138PS of power. The motor is expected to meet higher levels of refinement and performance. The petrol and the diesel motors will get a six-speed manual and an automatic gearbox.

Apart from these two engines, we can also expect a performance-oriented 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit, but only at a later stage.

The new Elantra has a contemporary design. The exterior gets a single-frame hexagonal front grille which looks very similar to Audi’s. However, the headlamp design, the character lines on the sides and the rear layout gives it a unique identity. The new Elantra carries forward the coupe design of the current car, but has ditched the curvy fluidic layout.

On the inside, quality material has been used in door panels, dashboard and other interior bits. It will also get a better infotainment system, mounted at a more approachable spot on the dashboard than the current car.
