Kia’s next big step for India will come in the form of Carnival, a full-size MPV. Likely to be positioned as a premium alternative to the Toyota Innova Crysta, the MPV is all set to debut in India by 2020. Meanwhile, in South Korea, the next-gen Carnival has been spotted testing for the first time.
Kia’s camouflaging skills seem to be strong. Nevertheless, the MPV is expected to get new headlamps, a revised front grille and machine-finished dual-tone 19-inch alloy wheels. The overall form factor looks similar to the current-gen Carnival and one can also see the power sliding rear doors as well. The proportions look similar to the existing MPV while details regarding what’s under the hood still remains a mystery.
Meanwhile, the Carnival destined for our shores is bigger than the Innova Crysta. It will be offered with a 2.2-litre CRDi VGT diesel engine producing 202PS and 440Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic. We expect the MPV to come loaded with features like power sliding rear doors and tailgate, an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch instrument cluster, three-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, Kia’s UVO Connect, etc.
Expect the premium MPV to go on sale in the first half of 2020. Going by the Korean brand’s aim to localise 60 per cent of the MPV, expect it to carry a price tag that ranges between Rs 24 lakh to Rs 26 lakh (ex-showroom). Coming back to the next-gen Carnival, will Kia offer it in India? Only time can provide answers.
