The Mini Convertible Will Get A New Iteration In 2025

The folks at Mini have announced that their quirky little Convertible will be getting a successor but it’ll be quite a long wait, with the next iteration set to arrive only in 2025. This announcement follows the mid-life refresh of the Convertible, like its hard-top counterpart.

Details on the new Mini Convertible are scarce, in fact, we’re yet to get a glimpse of a prototype on public roads. But what we do know is the carmaker is planning to go fully electric by 2030, with the last internal combustion engine model set to be introduced by 2025. Could the Mini Convertible be the carmaker’s swansong for ICEs then?

Currently, the Mini Convertible is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TwinPower turbo petrol engine. It makes 192PS of power and 280Nm of torque and can be specced with a 7-speed dual-clutch Steptronic gearbox. It can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 7.1 seconds. It would come as no surprise if Mini offers an all-electric option alongside the ICE model of the successor. For reference, the all-electric Cooper SE delivers 184PS of power and 270Nm, and can accelerate from standstill to 100kmph in 7.3 seconds.

Expect more details to surface as we get closer to the new Mini Convertible’s planned debut. Back home, we’ve already got the pre-facelift model that retails at Rs 40.10 lakh (ex-showroom) without the optional equipment. There’s no word on whether we’ll get the next-gen open-top Mini, but even if we do, it’s likely to be a long wait.
