Korean carmaker SsangYong will be showcasing its updated SUV, the Rexton at the 2016 Paris Motor Show and the same will be launched in the European market by 2017. It will be launched with a choice of a 2.2-litre diesel engine or a 2.0-litre petrol engine.
The current generation SsangYong Rexton that is sold in India is powered by a 2.7-litre 5-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 164PS of power along with 340Nm of torque. With the new model, we can expect the 2.2-litre diesel engine to make it to our market, putting out close to 180PS of power along with 400Nm of peak torque and mated to the tried and tested Mercedes-sourced 7-speed automatic gearbox.
Along with the Rexton SUV, the Mahindra-owned Korean car maker will also showcase a Rexton-based crew-cab pickup truck, Q-200 at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. The company also showcased the Tivoli SUV at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo and we can expect the same to be launched in our market by the end of this year.
SsangYong has been faring well in the UK market from the last few years and the company sold 3600 units last year in comparison to 280 units in 2010. After the launch of the new model, Ssangyong is aiming at selling close to 10,000 units per year.
Deliveries for the next-gen Ssangyong Rexton will start by early 2017 in the UK market and we can expect the same to be showcased at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo.
