The facelifted Mini Cooper Countryman has made its debut only a few months ago at the 2015 New York Auto Show but Mini is already testing the next generation Mini Countryman with an even larger body and new design.
The new Mini Countryman will feature the same new styling that the new Mini 3-door and 5-door hatchback families feature. The new styling elements will include longer wheelbase, new headlamps, a whole new fascia along with a new rear end. The new car will also feature several variants like the Cooper S, John Cooper S Works, etc which in turn will feature much sportier styling elements as compared to the standard car. The new car will be based on the UKL1 front-wheel-drive platform and will also be adapted for all-wheel-drive layout.
The new Mini Countryman in India will come with primarily two engine options, a 1.6-litre, turbocharged petrol car with 192PS of peak power and 280Nm of torque or a 1.5-litre diesel engine with 116Ps of peak power and 270Nm of peak torque. Expect the Countryman to cost about Rs 28-35 lakh (Ex-showroom) when it does make its way to India in late 2016.
With the BMW factory in Gurgaon assembling the Mini Countryman for both local and export markets, expect the car, especially the diesel version, to do quite well. The Mini Countryman will go up against the likes of the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA.
