After much delay, Nissan announced that it will bring the Nissan GTR to India. Ever since its launch few years back, Indian performance car enthusiasts have been waiting curiously for the GTR to head our shores but despite many rumours the car wasn’t launched. One of the reasons given by the Japanese car manufacturer was the need to train its service personals to offer after sales support and the low volumes for performance cars didn’t justify the move. But given the rise of performance car sales in India, Nissan seems to have changed its mind and technicians working on the GTR will have to undergo a special training programme so that they can do maintenance work on the supercar.
Although, the GTR wasn’t officially on sale in India many cars were imported to our country by four-wheeler enthusiasts. Around 40 to 50 units of the Nissan GTR are supposed to be in the country with few of the cars pushing 800PS plus. The most famous person to own a Nissan GTR in India is master blaster Sachin Tendulkar who has a customised red GTR and is often seen driving it in the wee hours around Bandra and Worli. The Nissan GTR has been dubbed as a supercar killer owing to the fact that it is faster than the Lamborghini Gallardo LP-570 and Ferrari F430. Around the fabled Nordschleife circuit in Nurburgring, it set the fifth fastest timing for a production car.
Powering the Nissan GTR is a twin-turbo V6 motor churning out 570PS and 463Nm of torque. Power is transmitted by a 6-speed dual clutch transmission on all four-wheels. The Nissan GTR boasts a fantastic launch control system that enables the car to lunge from 0-100kmph in under three seconds and top whack of above 310kmph. The Nissan GTR will be launched by late 2015 in India with an estimated pricing of around Rs 2 crore. The supercar will be sold at only select Nissan dealerships in major metropolitan cities and will be the flagship offering for the Japanese car maker in India.
