The dream of having the legendary Nissan GT-R officially in India might soon come true. In an interaction with ZigWheels, Andy Palmer, Chief Planning Officer, Nissan Motor Company, hinted at launching the company’s popular sportscar in the country.
He said, “I think GT-R is an obvious car to bring as a brand halo. I don’t think it will sell enormous number... maybe to a few cricketers I hope’ (He joked, since master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has already imported one personally). Nissan had been contemplating of launching the GT-R in India for the past few years, and now feels that the market is ready for the iconic two-door sports coupe as it would help establish the Japanese car brand in the country. Speaking about brand building Palmer added, “But I think it’s good to have a ‘halo’ car in the country to show what the company is capable of doing... and I’m certainly an advocate of that.”
The Nissan GT-R is known for its stunning performance, excellent weight distribution which gives it incredible handling prowess. The sports coupe is powered by a stunning 553PS, 3.8-litre V6 engine and with a claimed 0-100kmph of just 2.9seconds! Power is supplied to all four wheels via a lightning-fast 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Since the car will be imported to India as a completely built unit (CBU) it will attract the huge import duties and taxes which will elevate the price tag closer to Rs 2 crore!
