Following in the footsteps of various other carmakers in the country, Nissan India announced on Tuesday that it will increase the prices of its products from January 1, 2017. The prices of Nissan and Datsun models in the country will rise by up to Rs 30,000, it said in a statement.

"The price increase comes as a result of rising input costs. The revision of prices will help us offset the impact of this and maintain our competitiveness in the industry," said the managing director of Nissan Motor India, Arun Malhotra in a statement.

The company’s offerings in India range from the entry-level hatchback, the Datsun redi-GO to the Godzilla of cars, the Nissan GT-R. Both these cars were introduced in the country this year in a bid to shake up the carmaker’s fortunes here.

The Japanese manufacturer even announced a heavy price cut on the Nissan Micra CVT version not too long ago, making it one of the most affordable CVT hatches in the country.

Going forward, the carmaker has already spoken about its ambition to launch around eight new cars in India by the year 2021. The 2017 X-Trail Hybrid and the new-generation Micra could be among the first new offerings by Nissan next year as a part of this blueprint.

Other cars like the Nissan Kicks, which debuted at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics earlier this year, could also be brought to the country under this strategy. With carmakers like Nissan and Renault also finding their feet in India now, the coming days look all bright and sunny for both customers and enthusiasts.
