Delhi government’s odd-even commuting formula might have sparked widespread debate over its implementation, but entrepreneurs have identified opportunity in the times of such discussion too as the Delhi-based bus aggregation platform Shuttl has now unveiled a one-stop solution web portal for the new traffic proposal. In a press release on Wednesday, the company informed that it has launched the website oddevenbyshuttl.com to consolidate information related to the odd-even rule for Delhi’s commuters.
“Despite the endless debates on the proposal, we still don't have a single source of organized data to address every citizen query. There are certain exemptions and clauses on the proposed scheme which most people are unaware of,” the start-up said in the release and added, “Shuttl has, therefore, taken this step to provide all necessary information on one portal for the people of Delhi/NCR and make their lives easier during the pilot run of the project.
The webpage highlights the minute details about the odd-even rule that often elude the common public. A text box on the top left of the window, upon clicking, pops up into a list containing the ABC of the rule, including the relaxation of the rule between 8pm and 8am every day or the fact that two-wheelers are exempted from the guidelines or other state vehicles will also come under its ambit.
Different vehicles are also represented by respective graphics on the homepage which pop up into relevant information about each one of them. For example, upon clicking on the ambulance you are notified that ‘emergency vehicles like PCR vans, fire tenders and ambulances and public transports like CNG-driven buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws are exempt from this rule.’
Shuttl’s initiative is a much-wanted step for commoners in the face of the experimental odd-even rule, as they are also welcoming other transport-related startups and organisations to be part of this initiative and provide information on how they are doing their bit to clean Delhi’s air and help commuters.
While the future of the odd-even formula depends on its 15-day trial period, at the end of which it could be scrapped if the citizens don’t approve of it, it is heart-warming to see all quarters of the society gradually come together against the increasing menace of pollution in the capital.
