Tata Motors has tasted success with the recently launched Tata Zest compact sedan, and hopes to replicate this in the burgeoning hatchback segment with the Tata Bolt. The home grown automotive major has already started accepting online booking for the new small car with a minimum booking amount of Rs 11,000, and now Tata Motors has officially confirmed that the Tata Bolt will be launched in India on January 22, 2015.
The Tata Bolt is all set to be offered with a 90PS, 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor and a 75PS, 1.3-litre diesel engine, both mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. As of now, we don’t expect the Tata Bolt to be offered with an automatic transmission, but it will come with Eco, City and Sport driving modes as seen on the Tata Zest.
We expect the Tata Bolt to be priced competitively and it could begin at Rs 4.20 lakh to take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and the new Toyota Etios Liva.
