Polaris, the leading manufacturer of all-terrain vehicles and owner of Indian and the now discontinued Victory Motorcycles, has announced the recall of 26,182 Victory motorcycles from across the US due to possible threats to rider safety. The recall is applicable on not just one, but several models from the brand including the Victory Cross Country, Cross Country Tour, Cross Roads, Magnum and Hard Ball that were manufactured between 2010 and 2017. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has called these motorcycles dangerous due to engine misfires that lead to the melting of the rear brake cable and wirings near the engine.
Engine misfires lead to overheating of catalytic converters, which in turn leads to the heating of an already hot exhaust gas. This issue affects all the above models as all of them are built with similar brake and electrical routing technology. Polaris says it will not only notify owners but also get all official dealers to resolve the issue free of cost. Dealers and service managers will simply re-route the brake cable away from the catalytic converter. The recall is expected to start soon and owners have been advised not to ride their Victory motorcycle to avoid any mishap.
Victory Motorcycles was formed in 1998 by Polaris Industries to emulate the success of the modern day Harley Davidson brand. Later in 2011, Polaris acquired Indian Motorcycles. While Victory Motorcycles created 60 models, of which 25 of them won the best industry accolades, a lack of demand in the last five years forced Polaris to shut the motorcycle brand in January this year. While Victory Motorcycles does not make motorcycles anymore, they are still obliged to provide service support and spare parts for existing customer for the next ten years.
