For the vast majority of enthusiasts on the planet, the standard Pagani Huayra should be more than enough hypercar one can ever desire. Be it performance or exclusivity or desirability, it isn’t lacking in any parameter – except if you count the fact that it will sadly remain out of the reach of 99.99% of the population as one of its drawbacks.
But then the moneyed connoisseurs who comprise are clientele of such hypercars are a weird breed, different from the rest of us mortals. And they have the resources to pay for what they want. And that’s how the world is blessed with even more manic and hardcore machines like this, the new Pagani Huayra BC.
Remember the Zonda? Pagani’s beloved first hypercar had innumerable special and limited editions over its long lifetime, before it was finally laid to rest to pave way for the Huayra. This, the Huayra BC, is a special edition and more hardcore version of the Huayra in the same mould. The ‘BC’ in the name stands for Benny Caiola, a well-know car collector and Pagani’s first customer who passed away in April of 2010. Like we said, boutique manufacturers like these have special relationships with their customers.
To create the Huayra BC Pagani has taken the V12 AMG engine that powers the regular model and boosted output to 800 PS and torque to 1010 Nm. At the same time they have also managed to cut down the weight by 132kg. The weight drop has been achieved with new AP forged alloys, a titanium exhaust, new carbon fibre mix and tweaks to the suspension, and a massive new rear wing. There’s also a new seven-speed automated manual gearbox from Xtrac, which is not only 40 per cent lighter, but manages changes twice as quickly.
Such a radical performance upgrade will undoubtedly turn the Huayra’s 0 to 100 kmph sprint into a sub-3.0 second affair. If the BC can accomplish such a benchmark, it will join the ranks of the world’s current top-dogs, including the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1, and the LaFerrari.
To add to the additional power and weight loss, the Huayra BC also gets aerodynamic tweaks, and Pagani claim almost every panel on the BC has been modified to make it slippier and increase downforce. Inside, the limited edition Huayra will gain updates akin to the brand’s Zonda Cinque, meaning sportier seats and fewer creature comforts.
Pricing for the Huayra BC, which will officially debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, will start at around $2.8 million. Only 20 examples will be produced, and there are rumours that all of them have already been sold out. Still, we are holding out in the hope that a BC Roadster will come sometime after the regular Huayra Roadster goes on sale next year.
