Imagination is the limit when it comes to personalising your car. There are hundreds of customisation options which are offered by the manufacturers themselves and a thousand more in the world of aftermarket accessories. In this extensive world of personalisation options, Audi has come up with a new technique which could possibly replace the trend of body vinyls altogether. Currently available exclusively for the Audi R8 and the R8 Spyder, this technique involves etching on the paint surface to produce matt lettering and graphics. In simple words - a tattoo for your car.
Patented by Audi, this technique digs into a few thousandths of a millimetre of the paint job (less than a tenth of the thickness of a human hair) to create a symbol which the owner desires. As of now, Audi is only doing this on the side blades of the R8 but this technique could also be used on other painted surfaces of the car. In the above image, the words 'Audi Sport' have been etched on the glossy paint surface. Similarly, owners can have their name or the symbol of their cartel embedded on their ride, provided they fit within a metre-by-metre space.
In India, the R8 V10 Plus will set you back by Rs 2.55 crore (without taxes) in Delhi. It will enable you to reach 330kmph - of which the first 100 is achieved in just 3.7 seconds. It is powered by a 5.2-litre V10 motor which offers 610PS of power and 560Nm of torque. Competing with this mid-engine, two-seater sports car in the country is the Lamborghini Huracan, which is slightly pricier at Rs 2.99 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi).
This technique from Audi is more like a permanent 'tattoo' imprinted on your car. Vinyls always come with an option to be removed or changed but this car imprint will complel you to replace the side blade, if and when you want to get rid of it.
