Production of the Porsche Panamera, one of the most anticipated four-door sports coupes this year, has just gotten underway at Porsche's Leipzig plant. And for those Porschephiles who would like to see how this car gets built, the company is offering tours of the plant absolutely free of charge.

After many months of speculations and spy shots, the Porsche Panamera was officially introduced to the world on April 19 at the Shanghai Motor Show. With plans of launching this four-door grand tourer by September this year, the Stuttgart-based auto powerhouse has started full-scale production of the Panamera at its Leipzig plant. .This is the same plant that manufactured Porsche's recent supercar, the Carrera GT and is currently used in the production of the Porsche Cayenne SUV. To accommodate production of the Panamera, the Leipzig plant has undergone a 22,000 square metre expansion over the last two years, effectively quadrupling its size and has also more than doubled its strength of employees.

Since the Panamera will be sharing the production line with the Cayenne, Porsche also refined its state-of-the-art production and logistics concepts during this time.

Due to the expansion of the plant, no tours of the plants were possible during the past eight months. But to make up for this, Porsche has opened the gates of its Leipzig plant to visitors so that they can get an up close and personal look at how one of the most advanced cars in the world is made. The two-hour tours that will let visitors see the first Panamera vehicles roll off the assembly line are absolutely free of charge and can also be booked in connection with pilot and co-pilot offers. These offers will give participants the chance to experience the driving feature of Porsche cars with the sporty Cayenne SUV either on the race track or on the off-road circuit. Now that's something we'd like to sign up for!
