We still can’t believe we have heard “the Humanity Line…” said in that unmistakable manner for the last time already. Because, it turns out the man that lived, breathed design and what it meant for Tata has decided to part ways. Over the last 15 years, Pratap Bose has transformed and tied together Tata’s portfolio of hatchbacks, sedans, SUV, and even CVs together into one family using the sturdy but supple rope made of good design.
Having interned at Tata Motors while studying at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Pratap always wanted to return to the Indian automaker. After joining Tata Motors in 2006, Pratap set about turning his dreams into a welcome reality for Indian car buyers. However, now he has chosen to part ways with the company. It is not known where Pratap is headed next.

Martin Uhlarik, Head of Design at Tata Motors European Technical Centre in the UK, will now take on the role of Global Design Head. Tata Motors today has a wide portfolio of offerings from small hatches to large SUVs. Tata has always had the confidence to present concepts and ideas at the world stage, most notably at Geneva with concepts like the TaMo RaceMo made their debut here. Most recently, the Sierra EV concept that debuted at the 2020 Auto Expo spurred excitement and promise amongst Indian enthusiasts. For us, the Tata Nexon embodies Pratap’s achievements best, bringing exciting design wrapped around practicality to the masses.
Tata Motors’s legacy needs capable hands to sculpt and mould and we look forward to seeing how Mr Uhlarik shapes offerings from the Pune based manufacturer. Also, we can’t wait to find out where Pratap Bose gets ready to put pen to paper next and let his passion flow.
