Hyundai India has rolled out a software update for the pre-facelift Elite i20 Asta and Asta (O) variants manufactured before April 2017. The software update brings with it an rejigged Android Auto interface and not much else.
Some of you might remember that Hyundai started offering a 7-inch AVN unit with the Elite i20 in the latter half of 2015. This system was capable of video playback and also packed in-built navigation and Bluetooth, Aux-in and USB connectivity options. Later, Hyundai started equipping the AVN unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay before rolling out updates recently. The latest software update will let Android phone users connect to the infotainment system via USB and access Google Maps, Google Music, contacts and other widgets. To know whether your Elite i20 qualifies for the update, get in touch with your nearest Hyundai service centre.
Customers can send their Elite i20s for the software update after fixing an appointment. The installation is expected to take at least half a day. However, owners have been advised to leave the car for the day in case of delays. Maruti had rolled out a similar update in July last year for cars equipped with Suzuki’s SLDA (smartphone linkage display audio) unit, including the top variants of the Ciaz, Baleno and S-Cross.
The 2018 Elite i20 facelift, which was launched at the Auto Expo 2018, is equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink connectivity options.
