Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to the headquarters of Tesla Motors at Pao Alto, Calfornia soon after his arrival at San Jose.

Modi discussed with Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk the implications of the revolutionary battery technology in India and developments in renewable energy.

According to Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Vikas Swarup, the meeting between Modi and Musk focussed on adapting and obtaining the company’s “Powerwall” invention for India. The ‘Powerwall’ is a long-term storage device for solar energy which could “bring energy to hitherto un-serviced areas of India,” Swarup said.

“Prime Minister Modi and I talked about electricity generation and how there are ways to skip ahead with it as with cellphones,” Musk, Tesla’s principal engineer, inventor and investor, said.

During the meeting, Musk gave a presentation to Prime Minister Modi on the revolutionary technologies being developed by Tesla, which is likely to change the face of the motor industry and have wider renewable energy implications on developing countries like India.

Tesla Motors is a US-based automotive and energy storage company that designs, manufactures, and sells electric cars, electric vehicle powertrain components, and battery products.

Tesla became widely know after their production of the Tesla Roadster, the first fully electric sports car. The Roadster is the first automobile to use lithim-ion battery calls and the first production electric vehicle to have a range of over 320km on a single charge.

The company's second vehicle is the Model S, a fully electric luxury sedan, and its next two vehicles are the Model X and Model 3. Tesla also markets electric powertrain components, including lithium-ion battery packs to automakers including Daimler and Toyota.
