Renowned high performance transmission specialist Qaulife Engineering has put its new seven-speed sequential gearbox into series production. Named the QBE89G, the new in-line gearbox is the first seven-speed gearbox built by the firm that made its debut in prototype form at the 2012 Autosport Show, UK.
Built to cater to a wide variety of performance cars, the gearbox can be fitted to a wide range of front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive cars. The Qualife QBE89G seven-speed gearbox boasts ultra close gear ratios with two additional interchangeable drop gears that allow drivers to easily switch between long and short overall gear ratios to tailor the vehicle for overall acceleration or top speed. The gearbox has a quilt type input shaft, a modular gear cluster and an open dog face design tailored for rapid gear changes.
Keeping with the norms of high performance sports cars, the Qualife QBE89G features lightweight construction with two-piece alloy casing that pegs the overall weight of the entire gearbox at just 33kg.
While the transmission unit has been designed to suit a wide variety of performance cars, its format ideally suits front-engined rear-wheel drive cars with high revving small capacity engines that have a narrow powerband. This means it will be well suited to modern downsized turbocharged petrol engines. The new breed of small capacity rear-wheel drive cars like the Toyota FT-86 and Subaru BRZ will be the kind that will benefit from the new Qualife QBE89G gearbox.
BMW is working on a new seven-speed manual transmission to enhance driving pleasure for enthusiasts and they could do with a system like the Qualife QBE89G seven-speed gearbox.
All in all, the Qualife QBE89G seven-speed sequential gearbox that has been developed in keeping with the times to work in sync to optional semi-automatic transmission systems with paddleshifters will further performance and drive dynamics for affordable rear-wheel performance cars.
And it doesn’t end there, Qualife’s 69G six-speed sequential transmission is rated to 760PS plus of power. This means that the new Qualife QBE89G seven-speed sequential gearbox will be perfectly suited to exotic supercars as well.
