Sir Henry Royce, one of the founders of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars urged his employees to strive for perfection in all that they did and “to take the best that exists and make it better.” Staying true to Sir Royce’s words, the legendary British marque has presented the second-generation models of its Phantom range of cars, namely, the Phantom Saloon, the Phantom Drophead Coupe and the Phantom Coupe.
“From launch in 2003, the Rolls-Royce Phantom established itself as the benchmark in automotive luxury, a reputation it has held ever since. These cars are timeless in their appeal, but technology moves rapidly and we cannot afford to stand still.
Today, I am delighted to present Phantom Series II, a family of models that feature significant improvements in design, drivetrain and technology. As a consequence of these changes, we will continue to present with pride the best motor cars in the world, which re-confirms Rolls-Royce’s position at the very pinnacle of the ultra-luxury goods marketplace,” said Torsten Muller Otvos, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
The entire Rolls-Royce experience revolves around the word ‘effortless’ and the Series II features changes that further enhance the effortless experience of the uber luxury Phantom.
The Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II has become the first car in the world to feature LED headlamps as standard. This allows introduction of technologies that better control lighting. For example, curve light functionality uses electronic reflectors to focus headlamp beams in the direction of travel, providing better illumination while cornering. Adaptive headlamps change the cone of light on the road automatically in response to different driving speeds.
Inside, the Phantom Series II models get a redesigned multimedia controller with new driver assistance technologies. The new satellite navigation system has been fully updated with functions that include 3D maps with landscape topography, enhanced points of interest, guided tours and composite route planning.
Information is presented on the Phantom Series II’s larger 8.8-inch control centre display with eight programmable bookmarks that a driver can choose from. Front, rear and top-view camera systems along with rear path prediction that aid reversing and manoeuvring.
The Series II Rolls-Royce Phantom’s direct-injection V12 engine is 10 percent more fuel efficient than earlier. The Phantom range of cars also feature a new 8-speed automatic gearbox and rear differential that enhance the already exemplary ride quality.
