More powerful than the Triumph Street Twin

The Royal Enfield 650 Twins revolutionised the authentic British twin motorcycling experience as we knew it. Hitchcock Motorcycles, a popular brand from the land of the Queen, has put together a bunch of parts that could scare the living daylights out of the Triumph Bonneville Street Twin.

The highlight is of course the S&S Cycles big bore kit that bumps up the cubic capacity of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 from 648cc to 865cc. It replaces the 71mm bore with a 90mm unit which also bumps up the compression ratio from 9.5:1 to 11:1. The result is a retro roadster that puts out a respectable 65.9PS at the rear wheel, a significant bump up from the 47PS produced at the crank in stock form.

Complimenting the big bore kit is the performance camshaft and shims developed by S&S Cycles that give the valves a higher lift. With this, the power kicks in sooner too, and also gives you an option to adjust the lobes to suit your riding style.

To handle the additional power and torque, Hitchcock has developed a performance clutch plate kit that uses 10 friction plates and nine steel plates that fit in the stock clutch basket. The additional plates lessen the torque loss and also improve clutch feel. Besides, to improve the throttle response, the bike also comes equipped with a plug and play booster plug.

Hitchcock has even equipped the modified RE Interceptor with an aftermarket air filter, a Dynojet power commander, PowerTronic fuel controller and a custom exhaust system developed by Hitchcock. The exhaust header pipes are lighter and use the same mounting points as the stock unit.

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has been the muse of custom houses around the globe. While most prefer to leave the engine untouched, it is good to see a performance-oriented job on the retro roadster. The whole job (excluding labour) will set you back by over GBP 3,000 or Rs 3.10 lakh (excluding taxes and shipment), which is almost the price of the bike itself in India. With the debut of Royal Enfield’s 650cc cruiser around the corner, we are sure we’ll have more interesting builds coming.
