Royal Enfield Launches WWII-Inspired Classic 500 Pegasus Edition

Almost a week after its international launch, Royal Enfield has officially launched the WWII-inspired Classic 500 Pegasus Edition in India with a price tag of Rs 2.40 lakh (on-road Delhi). Only 1,000 units of this limited edition model will be made available globally. Out of this, only 250 units have been earmarked for India.

The ‘Pegasus’ edition pays homage to the RE/WD 125, also known as the Flying Flea, used by British paratroopers in World War II. These motorcycles were air-dropped behind enemy lines for running communication and reconnaissance, and played a major role in some of the bloodiest battles such as Arnhem and D-Day.

Considering its rich history, the limited edition model features a couple of cosmetic changes that separate it from the base motorcycle. This includes a Pegasus logo on the fuel tank, which will carry a unique serial number stencilled on it, and a set of military-style canvas panniers. Chrome inserts found on the standard Classic 500 have now been replaced with more subtle blacked-out elements on the exhaust muffler, engine cover, wheel rims, handlebar and the headlight bezel.

Although the Classic 500 Pegasus Edition is available in two distinctive colours - Service Brown and Olive Dab Green - in the global market, only the brown shade will be available here as the olive green paint scheme is reserved for the Indian army.

Powering the motorcycle is the same 499cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine seen on the Classic 500. This engine churns out 28PS of power at 5250rpm and 41.2Nm of torque at 4000rpm.
