A few days back, we had reported that Honda was working on a radar-equipped helmet. Other bikemakers such as Kawasaki, Suzuki and Ducati are also coming up with their own radar-based safety systems. But, most of these are still in early prototype stages, and there's some time before they debut on a production bike. However, if you don't want to wait, Senzar has you covered with its portable radar-based blind spot detection system for motorcycles.
Cub ElecParts Inc, a Taiwan-based company, has come up with this portable radar-based blind spot detection system called the Senzar Blind Spot Detection System or BDS in short. It is easy to install as well. All the rider has to do is stick the main radar sensors at the rear or on the number plate. Run the wires through the seat and connect it with the small LED lights which are placed on the rear view mirrors.
The sensors have a 30-feet scanning field and will notify the rider if any vehicle enters this field. There are two ways in which it can notify the rider - the LED lights on the mirrors will light up when the system senses an approaching vehicle. Alternatively, when the radar detects any kind of danger, the haptic sensors placed under the seat vibrate to alert the rider.
Now, coming to the not-so-sweet part, the price. The Senzar blind spot Detection System is priced at $399 (around Rs 27,864). However, the website mentions that this is introductory, and will be changed when it’s officially launched in the coming months. But, interested customers who sign up now, will get up to 50 per cent off as per the company’s pre-order deal.
