Skoda India has announced the commencement of production at its Aurangabad facility as well as work on the India Project 2.0 at the Pune facility. Production at the latter facility will resume from 1st June. Keeping health and safety of the workers in mind, the facilities will function under advisories from the Maharashtra State Government to restrict the spread of COVID-19.
Following a comprehensive set of safety protocols, both facilities will function with limited manpower in a single shift. The Shendra facility in Aurangabad is where the new Superb, which is set for launch next week, will be produced.
The Chakan facility in Pune will continue with the preparation of the India Project 2.0 as it works towards the MQB-A0-IN platform. Currently, the focus is on the preparations to launch Skoda and Volkswagen compact SUVs such as the Skoda Vision IN and the return of the 5-seater Volkswagen Tiguan.

At the facilities, a 60-point SoP has been implemented to emphasize safety and hygiene. Employees are required to go through a 6-point health checklist as well as a daily temperature check before they leave for work. Additional precautions such as smaller teams, reduced manpower, distancing and sanitization are also being implemented. Workers will undergo regular virtual training and are advised to use the Aarogya Setu app.
SAVWIPL has been constantly providing support against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in Maharashtra. It has contributed a sum of INR 1 crore towards the setting up of an 1100-bed dedicated COVID-19 facility in Pune. The company followed up with the contribution of essential medicines worth INR 22.34 lakh, and 12,000 reusable face shields were manufactured and distributed amongst healthcare providers in Aurangabad, Beed, Latur and Pune. Additionally the company’s engineers developed intubation boxes, filtered oxygen masks and automatic AMBU bags.
