It’s confirmed! Skoda Auto India will launch the Kamiq SUV in 2020, as per our sources. It has already started testing the SUV on Indian roads. Further good news is that we’ll be getting the premium Euro-spec model that we’ve already seen in spy shots. The Kamiq is a mid-size SUV that will rival the hot selling Kia Seltos, MG Hector and the Hyundai Creta. This could be the mid-size SUV Skoda Auto Volkswagen India was talking about. It is most likely to be displayed at Auto Expo 2020. The Kamiq features the latest design and technology from the Czech carmaker. It is based on VW Group’s cost efficient MQB-A0 platform. Let's read more about the India-bound Kamiq in detail:
Styling:
Visually, the Kamiq is a smart looking SUV. The front-end is dominated by split-LED headlamps and Skoda’s trademark butterfly grille. The Kamiq’s silhouette looks like a mini-Kodiaq, which further enhances its premium looks. A sharp character line runs through its entire profile. It also comes with 17, 18 or 19-inch wheels that impart a planted stance. At the rear, the Kamiq comes with sleek tail lamps that again mimic the ones on the Kodiaq. It also comes with a sporty rear bumper.
Dimensions:
The Kamiq is a tad smaller than its competitors. This is a black point as Indians like their SUV big. The Kamiq is a full 414mm smaller, 42mm narrower and 229 shorter than the MG Hector, one of the biggest SUVs in the segment. The Skoda has a longer wheelbase than the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. This could result in the Kamiq having more rear knee room.

Interiors:
The Kamiq features the latest dashboard design from the Czech manufacturer. The main highlight is the central console that houses the new floating touchscreen infotainment system. You can also see the new climate control knobs which is a departure from the standard unit seen in Skoda cars for a while. Other design highlights include a sporty flat bottom steering wheel.
Features:
As seen in earlier spy shots, the Kamiq comes with features like a touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry with push button start, a multi-info display, steering mounted audio controls, automatic headlamps as well as an auto-start stop function. It is also expected to come with connected-car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a sunroof.
The Euro-spec model also comes with safety features like nine airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability program, lane assist, ISOFIX and more. It scored an impressive five stars in the Euro-NCAP safety test.
Powertrain Options:
Overseas, the Kamiq comes with three petrol, two diesel and one CNG powertrain. Skoda is yet to confirm the exact powertrain option for the India-spec Kamiq. It is likely that the Kamiq could come with a TSI petrol engine and a TDI diesel powertrain, both BS6-compliant units. It is extremely likely that both powertrains will be available with a manual and DSG. Skoda could also offer the Kamiq with a CNG option as the carmaker has expressed interest for the cleaner fuel in the country.
Expected Prices And Rivals:
It is extremely likely that Skoda will display the Kamiq at the Auto Expo 2020. Prices for the Kamiq are expected to be in the range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom). This puts it right in the ballpark of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, MG Hector, Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV500.
