Some time ago, Czech automaker Skoda had announced its plans to enter the electric car market. Today, it has announced that it will be headed to Shanghai Motor Show 2017 with the Vision E concept. Skoda has also teased the concept car ahead of its debut. But what is Skoda's Vision E concept all about?

The Skoda Vision E concept is a level-3 autonomous electric SUV. It has two electric motors onboard to power all four wheels (one up front and one at the back). The system generates a total output of 306PS of power and helps the car go up to a maximum top speed of 180kmph. The Vision E concept can go up to a distance of 500km on a single full charge. The Vision E concept is 4,645mm long, 1,917mm wide and 1,550mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,850mm.

But what does the Vision E concept mean for Skoda? The Vision E concept is capable of things such as operating independently in traffic, go autonomous on highways and park and leave parking spaces itself without supervision. This five-door SUV is a hint at Skoda's vision of offering five purely electric cars in its range by 2025. Also, going by the design of this concept car, it may just lead to the birth of the Kodiaq coupe. However, let's keep our fingers crossed for that as Skoda has not said anything in this regard.

Skoda will offer its first electric car in 2019, a plug-in hybrid Superb. It will then be followed by a pure electric series-production car from the automaker in 2020. By 2025, it will have five models in its range that run on electric power. Needless to say, the Vision E lays down the groundwork for them. The Shanghai Motor Show 2017 will be on from April 19-28. Skoda will be showcasing this concept in form there. Don't miss it!
