It will be Skoda’s first made-in-India SUV, based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, as part of the carmaker’s 2.0 strategy
  • The Vision IN will globally debut in March and launch in mid-2021.

  • The SUV could be called the Kliq or Kosmiq, both names have been trademarked by Skoda.

  • The Vision IN is based on the VW Group’s heavily localised MQB-A0-IN platform.

  • It is expected to get two turbo-petrol engines: 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI.

  • It is likely to be priced upwards of the Rs 10 lakh mark.

Skoda India is one step closer to revealing the production-spec Vision IN, which was first showcased in concept form a day before Auto Expo 2020. The name of the production-spec Vision IN SUV, a key piece of the carmaker’s 2.0 strategy for India, will be announced in the first week of January 2021, followed by a global reveal in March and a market introduction by mid-2021.

Rumoured to be called either the Kliq or Kosmiq, the SUV is based on VW Group’s heavily localised MQB-A0-IN platform. Multiple spy shots reveal very minor changes compared to the concept first showcased. Up front, it gets Skoda’s trademark butterfly grille, LED headlamps, and an upright bonnet. We can also expect it to feature 17-inch alloy wheels and the small fog lamps seen on the Kodiaq.

Inside, it gets a floating touchscreen infotainment system and a 3-spoke steering wheel. To hold its ground in an otherwise hotly contested segment, we expect it to offer a fair amount of features. These could include a panoramic sunroof, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, and connected car technology. Expect safety features such as multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, and a rear parking camera to be offered on board the Vision IN.

The Vision IN will pack a punch under the hood with two turbo-petrol engines displacing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litres. The 1.0-litre TSI engine will put out 110PS and 175Nm, whereas the 1.5-litre TSI gets a little more grunt, putting out 150PS and 250Nm. While the smaller 1.0-litre engine is expected to get a choice between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, a 7-speed DSG could be the standalone option for the 1.5-litre motor.

The Skoda Vision IN will be the first Skoda SUV to be made in India. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks, and MG Hector. We expect it to be priced north of the Rs 10 lakh mark when it is launched next year.
