Stripped Down Mahindra Mojo Spied Undisguised

Of late, quite a few spy pics of a more pared down Mahindra Mojo with only one exhaust have swarmed the internet. And now, we have more pictures - of the undisguised bike, however - that give us a clearer picture of what to expect. Or not to. 

This version will be called the Mojo UT300, where UT stands for universal tourer. It will be launched as a more affordable alternative to the current Mojo which will be called the Mojo XT300 (Xtreme Tourer). (Read Mojo Diaries here)

The price cut comes at the cost of a lot of premium components. For starters, it will see a switch to carburetion from EFI. The current Mojo’s 295cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor makes 27PS of power and 30Nm of torque. With a carburetted setup, we can expect performance to drop down by a couple of PS. The twin exhausts will also be replaced by a single unit, which should help reduce weight. Next to go are the upside down forks. In its place, the Mojo UT300 will get conventional forks with a fork brace above the mudguard. The premium Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres too will be replaced with 110/70/17 front and 140/70/17 rear (down from 150/60/17) MRF Zapper tyres. While the overall silhouette of the bike remains the same, the UT300 misses out on LED DRLs. Also, instead of gold painted forks and frame, it gets a gloss black finish. Based on these cuts, we expect the bike to be priced approximately Rs 25,000 less than the more premium Mojo which is priced at Rs 1,74,520 (ex-showroom Delhi). 

Mahindra Two Wheelers plans to focus on just the premium space with the Mojo and a more cost effective variant is the next step in their plan. The Mojo UT300 and the rebadged Mojo XT300 is expected to be launched at the upcoming Auto Expo. Expect the UT to be priced around the Rs 1.5 lakh mark. At this price it would become a more affordable alternative to the Bajaj Dominar 400 and the Royal Enfield Thunderbird.
