This could give the Aprilia SXR160 a good run for its money
  • Honda has increased the engine displacement from 149cc to 156cc.
  • It also gets traction control and single-channel ABS.
  • The PCX design has been trademarked in India.
  • Honda India has contemplated the idea of bringing the PCX family of scooters to India. The designs were even trademarked in the country but we have seen no concrete signs of the scooter’s arrival. Hopefully, the new PCX160 gives Honda India enough impetus to bring the maxi-scooter to the country. So, what exactly is the deal with the new scoot?

The PCX160 is the latest in line of PCX scooters, now arriving with a larger 156cc single-cylinder 4-valve motor. It replaces the old 149cc 2-valve mill. Engine refinement should have definitely improved with the advanced valvetrain technology along with performance. The new output figures are rated at 16.31PS and 15Nm, 1.41PS and 1.8Nm more than the outgoing engine. There’s also Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC or in layman’s terms, traction control) and single-channel ABS to help the rider out.

Minor changes have been made to the mechanical bits of the scooter. The telescopic fork and the twin shock setup might be the same as before but they would have been tuned differently to take care of the added capabilities. A 14-/13-inch alloy wheel setup is found on the PCX160 with disc brakes at both ends.

There’s not much new to speak in terms of the PCX160’s design with the sleek maxi-scooter still sporting an elegant design. It comes replete with modern features such as a fully digital instrument cluster, keyless ignition, USB type-C port integrated into the cubby hole, and LED lighting all around. In typical maxi-scooter fashion, the underseat storage capacity is an enormous 30 litres while the fuel tank can hold 8 litres of gasoline.

Honda will start selling the scooter in Japan from late-Jan 2021. Will it ever bring the scooter to India? Who knows, but we do know for sure the Japanese manufacturer will be bringing in the more potent Forza 350 to our shores. This maxi-scooter is quite feature packed and has even received an engine displacement bump. Head here to check it out.
