Anyone who attended Auto Expo this year would know that Suzuki didn’t have anything interesting to offer aside from its BS6 portfolio. But that's probably because it was holding onto something a bit more interesting for a later date. The brand has now sent us a ‘Block your date’ invite for October 7 with the tagline ‘Introducing A Superior Way To Ride’. The fact that it trademarked the name Suzuki Ride Connect back in January 2020 cements our expectation of what’s to come -- digital consoles with smartphone connectivity.
Almost all commuter-centric two-wheelers in Suzuki’s portfolio except for the Access 125 feature a fully digital instrument console. This includes the Suzuki Gixxer, Gixxer SF, Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250. The only difference between the small and larger Gixxers is the negative-LCD display on the latter. So integrating smartphone connectivity shouldn’t be a problem. As for Suzuki’s scooters, the Burgman Street features a slightly different console but could get the same update. This will make it better equipped to take on the feature-rich TVS NTorq which pioneered smartphone connectivity in the ICE scooter segment.
The console design is expected to be largely unchanged, with Suzuki expected to use a dedicated app to sync information like call/SMS alerts, turn-by-turn navigation and ride statistics. Readouts like real-time and average fuel efficiency would be an added bonus, but it’s probably unlikely.
The addition of smartphone connectivity is likely to add Rs 1,500 over the price of standard models. We’ve listed down the current prices of all the models just to make things simpler.
