The Suzuki Gixxer 250s were two of the hottest motorcycles launched in 2019. Building on the legacy of their smaller 150cc siblings, the Gixxer 250 and the Gixxer SF 250 brought a bit more performance to a segment dominated by the Yamaha FZ25. The new developed-for-India engine was already BS6-ready. However, Suzuki took its time bringing out the BS6-compliant versions of the bikes. The duo has finally been unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 -- and other than the emissions compliance, there aren’t many changes to report.
Suzuki hasn't revealed the prices of the two motorcycles, which are likely to be launched in early March. But expect them to cost around Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 more than their BS4 counterparts. For reference, the Gixxer 250 BS4 is priced at Rs 1,59,800 whereas the Gixxer SF 250 will set you back by Rs 1,70,655 for the standard model and Rs 1,71,456 for the MotoGP edition, ex-showroom Delhi.
Suzuki has kept the motorcycle more or less the same. The 249cc single-cylinder motor with its revolutionary oil-cooling technology still pumps out 26.5PS and 22.2Nm (down by 0.4Nm). Unlike other motorcycles which have an oil-cooler, Suzuki developed a clever way to cool the high pressure points of the combustion chamber with the engine oil, eliminating the need for additional fins to cool the engine.
The styling remains the same as before, which is kind of justified on Suzuki's part since it has not been more than 12 months since the bikes went on sale. Bookings for the updated Gixxer 250s are underway, and should you be of the impatient type, you could book one at Suzuki's expo stall itself.
