Based on the Access 125, the Saluto 125 features edgy, neo-retro styling
  • This feature-rich scooter packs in keyless ignition, full-LED lighting, and more.
  • It shares its engine with the Access, albeit with a higher power output.
  • Sadly, it’s unlikely to make its way to India anytime soon.
  • We were a little disappointed with the lack of updates to the BS6 Access 125 when it launched last week, and Suzuki is rubbing salt on our wounds with this, the new Saluto 125. The Access-based scooter was unveiled in China at the 2020 Taipei Motor Show. Sadly, it is not expected to make its way to our shores anytime soon.

The Saluto is powered by the same 124cc motor as the Access, and while the torque output is identical at 10Nm, the Saluto's 9.2PS power figure is slightly higher than the Access' 8.7PS. This engine also does duty in the Suzuki Swish 125 sold in the Taiwanese market. The underpinnings are also largely similar, with the Saluto suspended on a telescopic fork and monoshock. The one difference is that the Saluto rolls on 10-inch wheels at both ends while the Access gets a 12-incher up front. A front disc and rear drum brake bring this scooter to a halt.

The biggest difference is in terms of styling - the Saluto has a neo-retro theme but also features edgy body panels that lend it a slightly futuristic design. Chrome is used generously on the apron, side panels, levers, and mirrors to give the Suzuki Saluto a rather premium looking. This is further aided by full-LED lighting, and the tail-lamp/rear indicator unit looks especially swanky.

The Saluto also towers over the Access when it comes to features, getting keyless ignition, semi-digital instrumentation, hazard lights, and a DC charging socket. We would like to see the Saluto in India and the Auto Expo next month provides the perfect platform for Suzuki. But going by the mildness of the updates given to the Access recently, it's unlikely that the company will bring this new scooter to our shores, at least in the near future. That said, we could see a larger Burman model, likely in the 150-160cc range at the 2020 Auto Expo, so we're keeping our fingers crossed.
