Ever since the Inazuma was discontinued in 2015, Suzuki has been missing out on the 250cc premium bike segment. However, that’s set to change soon as the Japanese bike manufacturer is set to launch the all-new 250cc Gixxer. While many were expecting the Gixxer 250 street naked to launch early this year, our sources have now confirmed the bike won't be launched before mid-2019.
The Gixxer 250 is expected to carry a bodywork similar to the DR 300 built by Hajou, Suzuki’s Chinese partner. It might also get a digital instrument cluster like the 150cc Gixxer as well as an LED headlamp. We expect the Suzuki Gixxer 250 to rival the simpler Yamaha FZ25 instead of the feature packed and more expensive KTM 250 Duke. To this effect, patent images of Suzuki’s new 250cc showed a fairly basic air- and oil-cooled setup. This will help Suzuki price the upcoming Gixxer competitively. We expect power to be in the range of 20-22PS.
Unlike the Hajou DR 300, the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer 250 is expected to arrive with a conventional fork setup and MRF tyres. When launched, expect the bike to feature ABS. The smaller Suzuki Gixxer has been an enthusiast favourite and a larger capacity Gixxer would be a good step up for those willing to upgrade to a more premium bike within the family as well as those looking for a premium but not too powerful runabout.
