Tata has unveiled four cars at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that are set to become the new face of the company in the near future. Of these, the Altroz and Altroz EV will duel it out with the likes of the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20 in the premium hatchback segment. The H2X Concept, on the other hand, will take on sub-compact SUVs such as the Maruti Ignis and Mahindra KUV100, while the Buzzard will be the new flagship SUV in the lineup.
Set to be launched in India by 2020, the Buzzard will replace the Hexa as Tata’s flagship 7-seater family-SUV and take on the likes of the Mahindra XUV500.
The Buzzard is essentially a stretched Harrier (by 63mm) with two extra seats. The second-row seats now tumble forward with a single touch, which should make ingress and egress very easy.
Third-row passengers will not feel cooped up as the new SUV features large quarter glass letting in a lot of light. Even the headroom for the third-row passengers has been improved thanks to the taller roof, which is nicely hidden by the new, bolder roof rails.
The design has been tweaked to free up space for the third-row passengers as well as luggage. Unlike the Harrier, the tailgate is actually flat - though that fact is hidden thanks to the angular design.
The Buzzard, which Tata officials say could receive a new name when launched in India, will be powered by the same 2.0-litre ‘Kyrotec’ 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine as the Harrier but in a higher state of tune. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque converter.
More details about the Buzzard will be revealed closer to its launch. So stay tuned to ZigWheels for up-to-date details.
