The Racemo has the power to completely change the perception around the brand
Tamo Racemo

Earlier this year, Tata Motors showcased its stylish Racemo sports car concept at the Geneva Motor Show. Internationally recognised for making the ‘world’s cheapest car’, the Nano, Tata stunned everybody in attendance in Geneva with the edgy Racemo concept. Now, the striking looks have earned the Racemo the German Design Award in the Gold category for its looks. Designed at the Tata Motors Design Studio in Turin, Italy, the Racemo is sporty and yet maintains that familiar Tata face.

Tata also partnered with Microsoft and made the car's virtual version available in Forza Horizon 3 to the delight of its growing fan base around the world. It's the first Indian car to feature in the racing game. Rumours had floated around suggesting that Tata had shelved the project in an effort to cut costs and instead decided focus on mass-market vehicles to drive up the volume. Having a halo product in the lineup tends to push the sales up by creating an air of desirability around the rest of the cars. Tata's design chief, Pratap Bose, has confirmed that the carmaker is bringing this exciting little sportscar to India but didn't disclose the production timeline. We're hoping to see it in the flesh at the 2018 Auto Expo and in showrooms sometime next year.

The Racemo will get a mid-mounted, 3-cylinder, 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 190PS of power and 210Nm of torque to the rear wheels via a 6-speed transmission. The two-seater coupe’s 165mm of ground clearance, light kerb weight and compact dimensions make it the perfect tool to inject a heavy dose of style and fun into your everyday commute without spending a whole lot of cash. The car will be built in a unique modular manner thanks to its MO-Flex platform. Tata says that this platform is capable of significantly cutting down the time required for a production-ready car to go into mass production. Let's hope Tata gives it a tempting price tag when it goes on sale.
