The Nexon EV is all set for its global unveil on December 19 with a launch slated for early 2020. Just ahead of the unveil, various details along with a spy shot of the cabin have emerged revealing more facets of the all-electric subcompact SUV. Here’s a roundup of everything you need to know before the Nexon EV breaks cover tomorrow:
Powertrain:
The Nexon EV will debut Tata’s Ziptron all-electric powertrain, which is reported to draw power from a 28.8kWh battery pack mounted on the floor. The same battery pack is also IP67 rated, meaning it’s waterproof and dustproof. As for the output figures, it is expected to develop close to 129PS and 254Nm of torque. Expect the Nexon EV to be on the heavier side in contrast to the standard Nexon. Furthermore, the Nexon EV is expected to use liquid cooling for optimum thermal management.

Dimensions and styling:
Multiple spy images have given us an idea of how the Nexon EV will look. It is most likely to have updated styling, which will debut on the facelifted Nexon. The updated front end with new slim headlamps and grille will be the most obvious change in the Nexon EV. The all-electric SUV will be more or less similar to the current Nexon’s dimensions while it is expected to sit closer to the ground with a lower ground clearance of 209mm (as opposed to 215mm).
Cabin:
Although it is expected to sport a similar cabin layout to the standard Nexon, little was known about it until now. The recent spyshot reveals a rotary knob with R, N, D and S (Reverse, Neutral, Drive and Sport). The same knob is also present on the standard Nexon and is used for toggling between different drive modes. Another novel bit inside the cabin is the flat-bottom steering, which in all likelihood will be shared with the recently unveiled Altroz.
Range and charging:
The Nexon EV is highly likely to come with a maximum driving range close to 300km. Tata will also offer fast-charging capabilities in the Nexon EV. For instance, with a DC fast charger, the Nexon EV is reported to charge up to 80 per cent in an hour. While with a normal AC charger, it will be able to fully juice up in around 9 hours.
Equipment:
The Nexon EV is rumoured to be offered in two variants. Some impressive features that might make it to the list are LED DRLs, rain sensing wipers, push-button start, smart key, Harman sound system, sunroof, and Tata’s ConnectNext connected tech.
Price and launch:
The upcoming Auto Expo 2020 might witness the launch of the Nexon EV. If we can speculate the pricing, we’d say it will be between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, the Nexon will have no direct competition but its closest competition will be the Hyundai Kona and MG ZS EV.
