Tata Motors has released a few more details about the Nexon and revealed a couple of interior shots in the process. As reported earlier, the car will come with a pair of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, both churning out 110PS of power. These engines have been christened the Revotron 110 and the Revotorq 110.
The dashboard features a free floating 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment. The output from the 8-speaker audio system is tuned by Harman. Tata has also embraced the two biggest smartphone platforms for the first time and will be offering the Nexon with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for a seamless connectivity with our digital world. Fans of old-school tactile feedback will have rotary dials and buttons to control most common functions.
However, it's the centre console that oozes luxury. The climate control switches are stacked between the infotainment controls and a 6-speed shifter. Move further down, and you'll notice a rotary knob to choose between City, Eco and Sport driving modes on the fly. While other Tata cars have also had multiple driving modes, the placement and the size of the knob is similar to what we see in luxury cars like Jaguar.
Right next to the knob is the handbrake with space carved out to grab the lever. The rest of the mechanism is concealed very well to maintain the rich looks. Alongside the parking brake is a storage spot which receives its own luxury touch. While this storage area could've been left uncovered, Tata Motors decided to give it an unnecessary but highly desirable Tambour-style sliding cover. The storage bin could also be housing the USB and Aux-in ports as they aren't visible anywhere around the centre console. Rounding off the cabin is a common armrest for the driver and the front seat occupant.
From what we could see, the compact SUV will also get climate control with an economy mode, rear parking sensors, keyless entry, push-button start and electric boot release. Although Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Honda WR-V offer cruise control on top trims, Tata has decided to give it a miss as very few people end up using it on a regular basis. Given the segment-best performance and a well-appointed cabin, Tata could be priming us to expect a premium price tag as well. We're still hoping for the Nexon range to start at Rs 6.5 lakh and top out at Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
