The Safari Gold Edition is the most expensive Safari you can buy, retailing at a premium of Rs 1.52 lakh (six-seater) and Rs 1.37 lakh (seven seater) over the standard model’s top-spec XZ+ trim.
As the name suggests, the Safari Gold Edition adds bling with gold inserts to the front grille, door handles, fog lamp housing, roof rails, the ‘Safari’ badging at the rear and even the Tata logo. This is complemented by blacked-out 18-inch alloy wheels. It is available in the Frost White and Black body shades, with the former getting a dual-tone black roof.
Inside, you’re greeted with Oyster White Diamond Quilted genuine leather seats to add that premium feel to the SUV. The gold treatment continues here with inserts on the door handles, AC vents and dashboard trim, as well as the Tata logo on the steering wheel. It also gets more kit with ventilated driver and co-driver seats. The captain seats can also be ventilated units as an optional add-on. Crucially, the carmaker has also added wireless charging, air purifier and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity to the Gold Edition and lower variants of the Safari.
Since it is based on the top-spec XZ+, it retains with all the bells and whistles, including an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, i-RA connected car tech, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold.
The Safari is powered by a 170PS 2-litre diesel engine that can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Have a look at our first drive review for our take of how it rides.
The Tata Safari Gold Edition will make its first public appearance at the VIVO IPL tournament set to resume on September 19, 2021, at Dubai. The Safari rivals the likes of the Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector Plus, and the Hyundai Alcazar.
