Audi has revealed its compact all-electric SUVs, the Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback, which will compete with the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Mercedes-Benz EQA, and Tesla Model Y. The Q4 e-tron could be launched in India, considering the carmaker is bringing its flagship e-tron SUV here. So without further ado, let’s begin.
The Q4 e-tron is available in three variants: 35, 40, and 50. All three come with varying power figures and battery options. While the first two come with a single electric motor driving the rear wheels, the top-spec variant has two motors driving all four wheels.

Fun fact: The front electric motor in the Q4 e-tron 50 can rev up to a whopping 14,000rpm!
As is the case with all EVs, the Q4 e-tron’s battery pack supports fast-charging up to 125kWh. There’s a ‘recuperation’ function on offer, which utilises the energy during deceleration to charge the battery.
The Q4 e-tron is almost futuristic in design. The connected LED tail lamps and large hexagonal grille have been inspired by some of Audi’s larger SUVs. The taut dimensions and the angry face (with funky LED headlamps) demand your attention. The compact SUV also comes with varying alloy wheel options ranging from 19 to 21 inches. The Sportback (coupe in Audi’s lingo) features a sloping roofline for a distinctly sporty look.
It's a familiar feeling when you step inside the Q4 e-tron’s cabin. You are greeted by the 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and Audi’s 10.1-inch MMI infotainment system (which can be upsized to 11.6 inches). Thankfully, physical buttons have been retained for climate control as they’re easier to use on the move. The steering wheel is a standout here, resembling a gaming console. The cabin is replete with sharp creases and curves, lending it its sporty vibe.
Some of the features include an augmented reality head-up display, voice assistant (with the ‘Hey Audi’ command), a digital driver’s display, ambient lighting, adaptive cruise control, and lane exit assist.
Audi could launch the Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback in India as Completely Built Units (CBU) by 2022 as its entry-level electric offerings.
