Maruti Suzuki’s plants in Manesar and Gurugram, Haryana and Hansalpur, Gujarat will be shut down this week as the carmaker is conducting its annual week-long maintenance routine. Expect waiting times on almost all Maruti cars, especially new and popular cars like the Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV and the Swift hatchback.
Currently, the minimum waiting period of cars sold through Maruti, Arena and Nexa showrooms is one month in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, while some cars like the Swift and the Brezza command waiting periods of over two months! The week-long shutdown will mean that Maruti will produce about 30,000+ cars less this month, which could mean that some unlucky customers will have to wait a bit longer for their car. By some estimates, the waiting periods could be extended by just over a week.
Maruti Suzuki is the largest car manufacturer in India with over 50 per cent of the popular cars sold in May 2018 being made by the company. Of the 1.61 lakh cars it dispatched last month, the Dzire took the top spot with 24,000+ units being sent to eagerly waiting customers all over India. This was followed by the evergreen Alto twins, while the Baleno, Swift, WagonR and the Vitara Brezza took subsequent spots.
The latest car from Maruti’s stable is the AMT-equipped Vitara Brezza. To read our comprehensive review of the Vitara Brezza AMT, click here!
