While the South African Hyundai Exter remains majorly identical to the India-spec model, it misses out on a couple of features

Quick Highlights:

  • The made-in-India Hyundai Exter is now being exported to South African markets

  • It is the eighth model from Hyundai’s lineup to be exported in South Africa

  • Hyundai has dispatched 996 units of the Exter to South Africa.

  • It remains more or less similar to what we get here in India.

The Hyundai Exter is the latest made-in-India car to be launched in South Africa.  It is exclusively made-in-India and the Korean carmaker has exported the first batch of 996 units of the micro-SUV to the Rainbow Nation. Another quick fun fact to know is that the Exter is now the eighth Hyundai model to be exported from India to South Africa.

Hyundai Exter Price: India vs South Africa

The Hyundai Exter in South Africa is priced between R 269,900 and R 334,900. And yes, it’s way more expensive the the Exter we get in India

South Africa-spec Hyundai Exter: Design

First things first, the South Africa-spec Hyundai Exter doesn’t get any design differences over the India-spec model. You continue to get the same design touches such as the H-shaped LED DRLs with headlights situated lower down, 15-inch dual-tone alloys, rugged body cladding all around and tail lamps with the H-shaped signature.

Even the color options are similar to the India-spec model, albeit with different names. The color palette includes Atlas white, Cosmic blue, Tomboy khaki, Fiery red, Titan grey, and Starry night. It also offers dual-tone colors such as Cosmic blue, Tomboy khaki, and Atlas white with a black roof.

South Africa-spec Hyundai Exter: Interiors and Features

The dashboard design and layout have not been changed and even the trim colour options remain the same to the car we get here: black/grey, black/blue and black/green. It’s not a bad thing, in our opinion, as the dashboard design is still sensible with all the controls situated in the right places. You also get most of the features which are offered in the India-spec car.

The Hyundai Exter gets an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a single-pane sunroof, steering-mounted audio controls, cruise control, automatic climate control, electric folding side mirrors, and keyless entry with push button start.

Ensuring your safety it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, electronic stability control, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

South Africa-spec Hyundai Exter: Powertrain

The Exter in South Africa is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which produces 83 PS and 114 Nm of torque. The transmission options are either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT. In India, the Exter is offered with an optional CNG kit with twin-cylinder tanks for improved boot space.

Hyundai Exter: Rivals In India

The Hyundai Exter locks horns with the Tata Punch, Maruti Ignis as well as select variants of the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
