One of the five Imolas could’ve been yours for $5M (Rs 35 crore). Could’ve been...
  • It is christened after the racetrack where it was born.
  • Numbers? 827PS and a mental 1100Nm from an AMG-sourced 6.0-litre V12.
  • Tips the scales at 1246kg, thanks to Pagani’s alien composite materials.

Paganis are art on wheels, with exquisite attention to detail, clinical levels of precision and liberal use of bespoke materials to keep the heft down. Wild is not exactly a term you associate with a Pagani unless it is the screaming Zonda R. Blame it on forced induction, the eargasmic screamers are long gone from Pagani’s lineup. The Huayra doesn't exactly scream but it is a plenty capable hypercar. The Huayra BC ups the antics even further but then, what exactly is this new Huayra that is named after a beautiful stretch of tarmac?

The Pagani Imola, christened after the racetrack where it was born, is the wickedest version of the Huayra that you can’t buy! Pagani is only making five cars and all of them have already been accounted for. Pagani calls it a vehicle-laboratory, as it showcases the technological and scientific progress of the Italian hypercar maker.

Breathing behind the cockpit is a Mercedes-AMG 6.0-litre V12 that sends 827PS and a massive 1100Nm of torque to the rear wheels. Sending these numbers to just the rear wheels might not be the best way around but leave that headache to the X-Trac 7-speed AMT (not your average AMT) with triple disc clutch and electronically controlled differential. What also helps in containing this vigour is Pirelli Trofeo R rubber and Brembo carbon ceramic discs.

Another area where Pagani went batshit crazy is weight saving. The Imola uses a never seen or heard before Carbo-Titanium HP62 G2 and Carbo-Triax monocoque chassis with tubular steel subframes. All these fancy composites have helped in shedding fat, bringing down the dry weight to 1246kg. If that doesn't impress you, Pagani has used an in-house-developed painting technique, Acquarello Light, that shaves 5kgs off the paint while retaining the finish, depth and shine.

Pagani pioneered active aerodynamics with the aircraft style winglets in the Huayra. Now Horacio Pagani has overtly said the Imola is not an elegant car. Function takes precedence over form in the design, which features huge ducts, splitters, a massive wing and a roof-mounted ram air intake. The hypercar also features a redesigned suspension with a new Smart Gas suspension system that works in conjunction with active dampers. The Italians assure that all the breakthrough technologies featured in the Imola will trickle down to future Paganis.

Now for the biggest blow, the price tag. The Pagani Imola cannot be yours for $5 million (Rs 35 crore). All five units of its production run have already been sold out.
