The list is topped by the Swift, closely followed by the Baleno and the WagonR coming in in third. Aside from Maruti, Hyundai is the only other carmaker to feature on this list. The Creta, being Hyundai’s bestseller, is also a part of the top five best-selling cars this month, with the Grand i10 and Venue also featuring in the list with over ten thousand units sold.
What’s more important is the comparison from March last year, right before the pandemic caused a nationwide lockdown and the automotive industry was severely affected. Average sales of the top 10 models in March this year are almost double of what they were exactly a year ago. Models like the Swift, WagonR, Dzire, Vitara Brezza, and Grand i10 have seen an increase of more than 100 percent compared to March 2020.
These figures showcase the industry’s recovery amidst the coronavirus pandemic. While the pandemic is still not over, the automotive industry is seeing a strong surge thanks to the increased shift towards personal transport.
