The concepts of today are the cars of tomorrow

The upcoming Auto Expo will serve as a road map of what lies ahead in the Indian automotive space. Concept cars are the biggest highlight of an auto show and the exact representation of the days to come. We saw quite a number of concepts at the 2018 Auto Expo which went on to become sales hits. Keeping that in mind, here are the top 5 concepts that you should look out for at this year’s expo.

Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA

As the name suggests, the Concept EQA is Mercedes-Benz’ smallest electric vehicle. This all-electric concept from the future first saw the light at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Mercedes claims it’ll do 400+km of range in one full charge and sprint from 0-100kmph in just 5 seconds. All thanks to 271PS/499Nm and an AWD system. In tune with modern standards, it also features a fast-charging system providing 100km range in just ten minutes!

Maruti Suzuki Futuro-E

The name Futuro-E first came into light when Maruti Suzuki filed a trademark for the name. Initially, we believed it to be an all-electric hatchback. But as it turns out, the Futuro-E is an all-electric SUV which will be one of the biggest highlights of the Auto Expo 2020. Details are scarce at this point but the Futuro-E might also be offered in petrol and diesel options.

Renault has some major plans for the upcoming Auto Expo. Apart from a prototype version of the highly anticipated HBC subcompact SUV, Renault is also expected to showcase a concept version of its Dzire rival. Yes, Renault is also taking a crack at the subcompact SUV space with a Kwid-based sedan. Both the sedan and the SUV might be underpinned by the CMF-A platform and use the same powertrain option as the Triber MPV. They might also feature a turbo petrol and an AMT gearbox.

Volkswagen ID Crozz

A recent teaser from Volkswagen suggests that we might get to see the ID Crozz (ID.4) concept in metal. Headline figures are 500km of range (NEDC) and 306PS of power from an electric motor. Volkswagen is one of the carmakers fully embracing the electric future and going by this trend, we might also be able to witness all-electric offerings from VW in the future. Meanwhile, the talk of the town is Volkswagen’s upcoming sub-4m SUV, which you can read about here.

Skoda Vision IN

Skoda’s answer to the likes of the Hyundai Venue is the production version of the Vision IN concept. The Czech carmaker has teased us with a design concept which looks like a mini version of the flagship Kodiaq. The subcompact SUV will feature a 1.0-litre TSI unit capable enough for 115PS and 200Nm of torque. Gearbox options are expected to include a manual and the now popular DSG. A diesel engine is not on the cards but a more powerful petrol might be. Skoda will preview the Vision IN just before Auto Expo on February 3 with a launch destined for 2021.
