This past week in the automotive industry saw a slew of cars either being unveiled or launched in the country. We also got launch timelines for upcoming models. Here are all the top four-wheeler news that stole the spotlight.
New Trim Additions
This week saw a variety of new variants being added to existing models in India. It started off with BMW adding a mid-spec SportX Plus to the X5 SUV, making it the most affordable petrol X5. That aside, Kia has reshuffled the Carnival MPV's variants and has introduced a new range-topping Limousine Plus trim. The latest entrant packs premium features such as dual 10.1-inch rear seat entertainment screens, 10-way power driver seat, electronic parking brake and more.
Last but not least, Tata Motors has added more bling to the Safari in the form of the Gold Edition. Available as six- and seven-seater layouts, the SUV gets gold accents inside and out. It also gets extra features that have trickled down to the standard Safari variants.
Debuts
Car launches aside, a raft of models broke cover in the country. MG Motors took the wraps off its fourth offering for India, the Astor, which will come equipped with a raft of segment-first features, ADAS, and a couple of petrol engines. Force Motors unleashed the 2021 Gurkha which brings classic G-Wagen design cues, an improved cabin, and interesting off-road-focused aids.
And finally, Citroen unveiled its second model in India, the C3. This sub-4 metre offering is the carmaker’s first made-for-India model, looks, and could take on multiple cars given its high ground clearance and SUV-like stance.
Skoda Updates
A new Matte Edition of the Skoda Rapid will come later this month. Also, the Kushaq top-spec Style's automatic variants are set to become safer by October this year, with the addition of more airbags and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
