Toyota has expanded the Fortuner range with three new variants. In addition to the 3.0-litre 4WD automatic, the Fortuner now also gets a smaller 2.5-litre mill from the Innova. This engine though will produce more power and torque and these variants will be available in TRD Sportivo trims only. That means a bit more kit and a price higher than the 3.0-litre variants. The 4x2 manual with the 2.5-litre engine costs Rs 24.44 lakh and the automatic is priced at Rs 25.44 lakh, all prices ex-showroom Delhi.
The 2.5-litre engine produces 144PS of power at 3,400rpm and 343Nm of torque from 1600-2800rpm, a massive 42PS and 143Nm more than the Innova. Weight difference isn’t much at about 30kg compared to the 3.0-litre engines but that is due to added kit in these 2.5-litre cars. Talking of equipment, the TRD Sportivo variants get a dual tone radiator grille, front and rear bumper spoilers, rear roof spoiler and a muffler cutter.
The 2.5 Fortuner misses out on navigation with voice commands, HID headlamps and cruise control. It is also only available in Super White and Metallic Silver colours only while the rest of the colours are reserved exclusively for the 3.0-litre.
