We all know how well the Toyota Innova was received by the Indian markets and seems like its Crysta successor is tracing a similar trajectory. After being launched at a base price of Rs 13.84 lakh last week, the Toyota Innova Crysta has garnered around 15,000 bookings till date, Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s general manager (sales), Balaji Narayan told us at an event in Mumbai.
Narayan also confirmed that the waiting period for the MPV has now extended up to two months while it is slightly lower across the rest of the country. The bookings for the Crysta had unofficially commenced soon after it debuted at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi earlier this year.
The Toyota Innova Crysta was launched with two diesel engine options – 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre – and is set to face the impact of the blanket ban on registration of new diesel cars in Delhi. As of now, the car can’t be registered in the NCR and Toyota Kirloskar Motor vice-chairman Shekar Viswanathan, has termed the ban 'the worst advertisement for India'.
However, introducing a petrol engine will help it resume sales in the region. And the Japanese carmaker hasn’t ruled out this possibility either. While they remained tight-lipped about the specifics, we believe it will be a 2.0-litre motor that is available in the Indonesian market. Power figures stand at 139PS while peak torque output is rated as 184Nm.
It is worth mentioning that earlier iterations of the Toyota Innova came with a petrol variant. But it was discontinued citing lack of demand.
